Background History
Zara is a clothing and accessories retailer with 2,236 stores worldwide. The company was found in Spain in 1975 by Amancio Ortega with his wife Rosalía Mera. Zara is the flagship store of its parent company Inditex which also owns Zara Home, Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Oysho, and Uterqüe. The company started its international expansion in Europe and eventually entered North America, Asia, South America, South Africa, and Australia. Zara Online was launched in 2010 and available only in Spain, the UK, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and France. As of 2017, the website provides its services to 44 countries. The company is one of the first retail stores that is brought up when it comes to affordable designer fashion. Its supply chain has been highlighted for its responsiveness to trends compared to its competitors and is often referred to as a "fast fashion" brand.


Operations Manager

Adnan Siddiqui is currently the Operations Manager of Zara at the Menlo Park Mall in Edison, NJ. He started as a Mens Stock Associate when the store reopened and has been working for the company ever since. Adnan has worked at Zara Newport Centre in Jersey City, Zara Palisades Center in West Nyack, and Zara Garden State in Paramus. He was promoted to the role of Stock Supervisor in 2016 where he took on more responsibilities with the preparation and reception of shipments along with With his years of experience and dedication to the stockroom, Adnan was promoted as Operations Manager in the beginning of 2017 and now leads the stock teams of the womens, mens, and kids departments. He works with Josep, the regional operations manager, and Pinar, the regional stock control manager, to ensure that the stockroom is kept organized and accurate and shipments are processed properly and timely. He creates the schedules for each department's stock team according to the amount of units arriving in the shipment. On top of that, Adnan is in charge of processing transfers received from other stores, scanning products to be transferred to other stores, as well as collecting damaged products to be transferred to a local warehouse. He frequents the flagship store on 5th Ave in New York for meetings and workshops with the regional team members to report updates, improvements, problems, and suggestions.
Processing of Shipment
All Zara stores receive shipments twice a week: Mondays and Thursdays. Adnan, along with stock associates, visual merchandisers, and another manager, come in at 5AM to process the shipment before the store opens at 10AM. All the hanging items are taken out of the boxes and placed onto rolling racks in order to get priced and organized depending on if it stays on the floor or goes to the stockroom. All the folded items are taken out of the boxes; one person takes the garment out of the packaging, the next person scans and puts the price tag on it, and the last person organizes according to subfamily.
